Still searching for a summer internship or full-time position at a fast-moving company? Looking to get your foot in the door and network with distinguished and high-growth tech companies? How about learning each company’s sales strategy and gaining valuable recruiting insights?

Here’s your chance. Each year QSA  chooses a select number of students to travel to Toronto in November. Students are given the opportunity to connect with company representatives in downtown Toronto. speed networking

A QSA tradition, in 2017 delegates joined QSA in partnership with the Great Canadian Sales Competition at 200 Front Street West for one of our most anticipated events of the year: Sales Speed Networking!

What exactly is speed networking? Rapid-fire networking with reps from exceptional corporate partners (IMB, Air Canada, Shopify, Visio Critical, and Citron Hygiene), challenging delegates to establish deep connections quickly while building a diversified contact base.

Each year, QSA works in tandem with the Great Canadian Sales Competition. The competition has been bringing students with a passion for sales together for years, and is an amazing opportunity! As part of the application of the Speed Networking Event, all delegates entered the competition and not only gained exposure to top sales companies but also entered to win $7,500! And we might just have produced one of the finalists...

Toronto

Mlse office VISIT

In March of 2016, students joined QSIA for a trip to Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment's head office in Toronto for a tour of their office, an opportunity to learn about sales in sports, a unique experience to watch to network while watching the Raptors and Leafs play in Real Sports Bar.
Who is MLSE? They're the parent company to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Raptors, Toronto FC, and the Toronto Marlies, but they're also the creative minds behind campaigns like "We The North", and the people who brought Drake to the Raptors.
The event itinerary was as follows:

  • Tour of the MLSE Premium Sales/ Service Department

  • Tour of the Air Canada Center (home of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Toronto Raptors)

  • Q&A Panel Discussion with a range of MLSE Sales Reps in the VIP player's lounge (VP to entry-level on the panel)

  • Watch the Leafs (away vs. TBL) and Raptors (home vs. OKC) from a private room at the Real Sports Bar and Grill while networking with MLSE reps

Watch out for similar events in the future!

Stepping into sales/summer job fair with jim hamilton

What do you get when you mix the one and only Jim Hamilton with slices of cheesy pizza all the way from Italy? QSA's Stepping into Sales/Summer Sales Job Fair with renowned Smith professor Jim Hamilton!

For those of you who don't know Prof. Hamilton, he teaches COMM434, an upper-year sales class that is really difficult to get into. He has a breadth of experience in sales, and he's one of the most energetic professors at Smith.
At this event, Prof. Hamilton gave an overview of the sales industry over some free pizza. He spoke on the benefits of starting your career in sales, what an entry-level job in B2B sales looks like, how lucrative a career in sales can be, and why you should get an internship in sales after first/second year.
This event was perfect for first years who are looking for SUMMER JOBS because it was followed by a "summer job fair" where we showcased 10 exclusive summer internships for first-year Smith students!

Networking with fidelity investments

Fidelity Investments is always looking for outgoing leaders who are passionate about financial markets to join their sales team. That's why this event was for students looking to work for a fast-paced, dynamic, and integrative team where no two day.

QSA will hosted a presentation by Fidelity at the Grizzly Grill in January of 2016, followed by a networking session where appetizers and drinks were generously sponsored by Fidelity.

Fidelity hires for both a Financial Services Student (4 month internship) and a Sales Path Associate (full-time), and each year they're eager to hire Queen's students. We selected 30 students to attend this event, and there was a 1:5 student to rep ratio.

Coca-Cola HQ Visit & networking

In 2016, QSA took 38 lucky students to the Coca-Cola Headquarters, where they were given the opportunity to tour the bottling warehouse, network with top management, and learn unique Coca-Cola sales strategies.

Successful applicants were transported to and from Toronto and provided with a generous lunch from Coca-Cola. Even better, these students were given the opportunity to hear a keynote speech from Bill Schultz, the President of Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada. The company does minimal campus recruitment with Queen's so watch out for QSA-Coca Cola events in the future.

Selling the interview

Every race has a starting line. Every season has a home opener. for QSA that was our inaugural event: How to Sell Yourself.

"Tell me about yourself!", "Why do you want to work for us?", "How did you prepare for this interview?" As students going through hiring processes, we hear that a lot, so this event was a great way to learn what recruiters are looking for and how to impress them. Students gained advice from one of Sales Talent Agency's top recruiters and definitely learned how to nail their interviews.
