Getting a sales internship: Stories from students

Lexi Drope - Comm2022

What helped you to know Mackenzie Investments was the right fit?

Earlier in the year I attended QSA’s Toronto Office Tour event, where we were given the opportunity to learn about sales at different companies, one being Mackenzie Investments. I was able to see the office space, network and make connections with past interns, and the sales team I would be working with in the summer. The in person experience QSA provided enabled me to see what a great fit Mackenzie was for me as a company.

What process did you follow to get an internship offer?

After following up with the recruiting team, I submitted an online application, and conducted an in person interview earlier this fall. Trough the skills I learned with QSA, the opportunity it presented, and the connections I made and sustained throughout, I was offered a position as an Inside Sales Intern at Mackenzie investments for summer 2020.

What are you most looking forward to about your position?

I am extremely excited to learn more about financial sales, and to work with a team who is extremely enthusiastic, and supportive of my learning and growth this summer.

What process did you follow to get an internship offer?

Through my involvement with QSA, I was able to secure a Summer 2020 Sales Internship at Fidelity Investments in Toronto, Ontario.

After networking with Fidelity’s representatives at QSA’s Sales Summit, I had the opportunity to connect with their head recruiter, earning myself an interview.

What are you most looking forward to about your position?

I am most looking forward to the extensive training Fidelity provides their Student Interns, and meeting with a wide range of Fidelity’s clientele.

Attending the QSA Office tours in the fall of 2019 helped me learn about the different streams of sales in the finance industry and provided me with the opportunity to secure a 4 month internship after networking with the hiring managers at Mackenzie Investments.
